HOW
DO I PREPARE THE BOOK FOR THE PRINTING HOUSE?
One of the main problems with self-published books is that they "look self-published" which means that they are poorly designed and the layout looks unprofessional. To achieve a clean, professional-looking book you need to be, or hire, a competent layout person who, in addition to coming up with a good design, can prepare the images for inclusion and prepare the files to send to the printing house.
Images
in the book must be scanned at the correct resolution and size
and, if necessary, enhanced using a computer program like
Photoshop.
In
addition, the digital files that are sent to the printing house
must be compatible with the systems at that printing house.
You should check with the printing house/POD service/e-book service
before you begin the layout in order to make sure that the files you will be
preparing will work at the print shop. A professional layout person will do this for you.
